'Tis the season to decorate! Regardless of how cold it may be outside, there's something about holiday decorations that gets you feeling warm and cozy. Despite the plethora of options to choose from, it's surprisingly challenging to find elegant, yet budget-friendly decorations that you'll be able to use for years to come.

A quick Pinterest search will produce millions of ideas for festive porch displays and bright, sparkling lawn decorations, but the garage area is often overlooked. Since we could be stuck in our homes for the majority of this holiday season, why not make the most of it?! Here are our festive decorating ideas for the space around, above, and everywhere in between your residential garage doors.

| GREENERY

Potted Trees

One of our favorite looks is to place mini pine trees on each side of your garage door (and between doors if you have multiple). Add string lights and ornaments as you would an indoor tree, or leave them plain if you prefer a more natural, rustic style.

Wreaths

If you choose to hang it on the actual door, opt for a small and light wreath so your residential garage door can still open and close without issues.

Swag + Garland

Swag is one of the most versatile Christmas decorations that can add a holiday touch to any area needing a bit more oomf. Drape it around your light fixtures, over your mailbox, or even hang it on your garage doors.

If your house has an awning or trellis over your garage area, you can wrap garland around the framework--style it with string lights, pine cones, faux berries, or whatever else you have to achieve the effect you're looking for.

The same look can be achieved on houses without awnings by wrapping garland around the frame of your residential garage door(s).

Be sure to test the operation of your door when doing this to make sure your decorations are not getting in the way of anything.

Window Decals

Does your garage door have windows? Add a cute (and easily removable) holiday accent to them with winter-themed stickers.

Choose from icicles, snowflakes, ornaments, candy canes, snowmen, and more.

Garage Door Decals

Want to go all out? Turn your garage doors into enormous presents with bow decals.

Take advantage of the magnetic properties of your steel garage doors by using decorative magnets instead of stickers.

If you choose to DIY this idea, make sure the material you use to create the ribbons is thin enough to still allow your doors to operate safely.

If you don't want to spend a ton of money on decorations or have limited storage space, don't fret! There are plenty of ways to make items you already have look like holiday decor.

Dress up your planters by tying some ribbon around them. If you're not feeling the traditional red and green theme, try buffalo plaid, gold, or houndstooth patterns.

Galvanized Bins

Are your planters ruining your winter wonderland vibes? A quick and low cost solution is to cover up existing pots by placing them into galvanized metal buckets.

Update Artificial Stems

You can also replace existing artificial floral stems with seasonal varieties, such as cranberry, cedar, pine, eucalyptus, cypress, and more.

Projector lights are a great way to make it look like you spent hours decorating your house when it actually took you 5 minutes.

Make your house look like it's been caught in a blizzard, or even project video holograms guaranteed to catch the attention of passersby.

Spotlights

Get in the Christmas spirit while showing off your beautiful home with spotlights. Our favorite idea is to alternate red and green lights along the facade of your house.

Spotlights will also elongate your facade, creating the illusion of a taller house.
